Goals

In order to reach a higher level in swimming, you must set goals. There are three sets of goals that should be set: short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals. To stay constantly motivated, you must reflect on these goals every single day. Write these goals down, and each time you succeed in completing a goal, immediately create another one. A short-term goal is a goal that you should be able to reach in four to six months. A mid-term goal is a goal that should be reached within a year, and a long term goal is a goal you look forward to completing in three to four years. As a swimmer, I know the struggles that we face day in and day out. At meets, when you want a cut to a high qualifying meet and miss it by a hundredth of a sec, frustration builds up, and sometimes, you are so frustrated that you feel like quitting. You work and sweat for months to get a single cut, and you miss it by a hundredth of a second. You have to use that frustration and anger in the pool to get the cut at the next meet. You may fall, but you always have to pick yourself up.
